Tony and Luz Ramil are supporting Lucienne's efforts to serve on the County Council.
"The first time we met Lucienne de Naie was when we attended one of many workdays at Makena Beach that Lucienne was conducting through the Sierra Club. This was our first volunteer effort in South Maui and Lucienne would set a high standard.
In the mahalo circle that started the workday, Lucienne spoke of the commitment to the land, encouraged us about how much better things could be, introduced the group and sponsors, and away we went. We were fortunate enough to work with Kimokeo Kapahulehua that day clearing broken glass off of the beach and from out of a cement bunker.
At the time, we had no idea that we were rubbing elbows with two of Maui's greatest assets. Lucienne inspired our work in South Maui. She was the example we wanted to follow. Over the next several years we were to learn much more about Lucienne de Naie but on that one workday she inspired a desire in our hearts to serve our community."

I have had the pleasure to hear Lucienne speak on several occasions & I can’t think of any one person I’ve met that cares more about this island & what is in its best interests.
In June of this year Lucienne led a Sierra Club event I attended that stopped at 7 sacred Native Hawaiian sites in South Maui & she showed us in each case how the developers had ‘squirmed’ around the rules they were forced to abide by in order to build homes or condos. She showed us how they built without caring about how one site tied into another site. She showed us a site where you had to call the owners behind a gated community to get in & view a particular site. She showed us a site where a large heiau was behind a ‘fence’ of bushes right in the middle of a large condo complex & a sign proclaimed it a Native Site & said “Please do not enter”.
I can assure you her tone during all this was one of utmost respect for the native sites & not at all in favor of what the developers have been doing at these places.
She definitely has her heart & soul in the right place & would make a huge difference in the politics of Maui County if given the chance. Mahalo & aloha

"Lucienne has been indispensible to our non-profit organization- Friends of D.T. Fleming Arboretum (FOFA). Her grant writing skills have helped me carry on the dreams of my grandfather, D.T. Fleming, to protect and enhance Maui's native dryland forests.

The same skills she offered to the arboretum: clear communication, good research and dedicated effort will make her an excellent addition to our county council."

"I have always felt a special admiration for Lucienne's intelligence. Not only does she always know the facts, procedures, and history of any issue; she sees the bigger picture. I have never known her to lose her sense of humor, nor her respect for other people, even when she can prove that their positions are dead wrong. Best of all, Lucienne is completely incorruptible. Her whole life is committed to helping people—us on Maui—make smart choices. It's her personal mission. What more could anyone want from a candidate for County Council?"

"From protecting the watersheds, coastlines and native forests of Maui to the restoration of ancient Hawaiian fishponds, Lucienne understands what makes Maui so "no ka `oi"! Her passion for the islands, its resources, people and culture is remarkable. It's refreshing to see someone who has truly learned and accepted the meaning of aloha, take action, and give back to the `aina that has provided so much for her."

Lucienne de Naie and Maui Tomorrow have worked hard to preserve Hawaiian cultural resources. Lucienne does her research, and her advocacy is based on facts.
How do Hawaiians benefit by these projects?
[Such as] Everett Dowling’s project above my grandfather’s favorite fishing grounds. The shoreline will be littered with $5 million condos.
Dowling only completed a second survey because Lucienne and I challenged his first shoddy survey, and we had an independent archaeologist visit the site. The second survey found human burials and numerous archaeological features.

I know Lucienne de Naie to be a kind, thoughtful individual who always strives to find the common-ground solution to whatever issue faces us all. In my opinion, she would represent not just East Maui, but all Maui, with respect and dignity. She certainly has my vote.
