Homes for Local Families

Every area of Maui needs a steady supply of homes that working families can afford to buy or rent.

Most areas that rely heavily on luxury resort-based economies see land values rise too rapidly to permit a sufficient number of moderately priced homes to be built.

Housing land trusts (like the newly-formed Community Land Trust here on Maui) have an important part to play to keep housing affordable for present and future generations.

County government must plan carefully to make sure that limited infrastructure capacities (such as water and sewage hookups) are prioritized to provide for the needs of Maui's existing residents first.
