Ice, crack cocaine and other highly addictive drugs have taken a heavy toll on our families and neighborhoods.

While the courts and law enforcement agencies have a vital role to play to protect citizens from criminal actions by drug abusers, our schools, churches, youth programs, clinics and counselors also need resources and community support to reclaim lives taken over by drugs.

Many innovative programs and approaches are being explored to help break the cycle of drug abuse in communities across the world.

Maui needs more programs that combine our traditions and cultural values with meaningful rehabilitation options to address the deeper causes as well as the devastating effects of drug abuse.
