Candidate Statement

Aloha kakou,

My name is Lucienne de Naie and I have lived in the East Maui Council district for 21 years. I was born in Los Angeles 59 years ago into a family of hardworking immigrants from Italy and Russia who had sought a better life in America. I came to Maui in 1972, relocating my small jewelry design business here. I currently earn a living as a researcher and writer. My husband and I have a small farm with tropical fruits, ornamentals and honeybees. I have one hanai daughter, Sabrina, who is married and lives on the mainland.

For the past decade I have spent hundreds of hours listening to folks at public events talk about the issues affecting our lives. Hearing the hopes, dreams and sensible ideas of so many people inspired me to go to many public meetings and try to pass on what I was hearing to our elected officials.

Now it's time to move from advocacy to action on many of these same issues. Our community deserves leadership that is committed to act on property tax reform, housing for local families first, home grown energy, controlling the ice epidemic in our communities, responsible management of water resources, home rule for transportation planning and protection of our natural and cultural resources.
Together, we can find common sense solutions for Maui's future.

I humbly ask for your support to serve all the people as the next East Maui County Council member.
